Tooth extractions refers to removing damaged, broken, or extra teeth
that dentist cannot restore or repaired by filling, crowns, or other dental
treatment. Tooth removal can be a simple procedure, or surgical extraction, the
former is usually used for tooth that can be easily accessed using an
instrument called elevator, the latter is a more complex. Broken tooth at the
gum line, wisdom teeth are examples where surgical extraction might be
necessary. Before a tooth is extracted, a comprehensive review of medical and
dental history is conducted along with the appropriate X-rays. The x-rays
reveal all relevant information regarding the tooth in question, its surrounding
bone to determine whether to do the procedure in house, or refer the patient to
the oral surgeon.
